FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION (1972-1977) - PINKY VIOLENCE with MEIKO KAJI, REIKO IKE & MIKI SUGIMOTO (Part 3/10)
As we celebrate Sexploitation movie posters in August, I wanted to introduce you to a sub-genre originating from Japan and which has reached cult status worldwide having influence countless director including Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol.1 and 2.
This genre saw the rise to superstardom of several actresses such as MEIKO KAJI, REIKO IKE and MIKI SUGIMOTO, pushing the boundaries of the then male chauvinistic Japanese society, whether civil, criminal or cinematographic. The 10 part Blog will present you some of the best moves of the genre and their very rare Japanese posters.
Let’s start with MEIKO KAJI's most famous movie series of 4 films shot between 1972 and 1973 by director Shunya Ito (which spawned 2 lesser movies in 1976 and 1977 with different actresses)
The Female Prisoner Scorpio aka convict #701 sees kaji as a woman nicknamed Scorpion (sasori) on a revenge path against all the men who wronger her (yakuzas, jail guards and corrupt cops). The first 4 movies see her escaping times and times again while murdering her enemies and being inflicted rape, lesbian scenes and other tortures while never losing her will to survive and to kill. She was one of the basis of Uma Thurman’s character in Kill Bill. (watch rape scene from movie #2 here)
Above are the near complete et of Japanese movie posters of the series including the 2 ultra-rare Manga-style alternate posters (titles appear when clicking on icons)
